East, West football improve to 2-0

West Football: Devante McFarlane dashed the Walt Whitman defense for more than in the Colts' 29-7 victory. The ESPN New York State Player of the Week rushed for 130 yards and three scores and added another through the air. He completed three of his six passing attempts for an additional 52 yards. The Colts, 2-0, will now face a tough test on Saturday, as they'll travel to Riverhead.

East Football: The as they defeated Centerach, 49-28, on Saturday. Jake Gnieser broke off two long touchdown runs of 44 and 53 yards en route to the victory. They too will face a big early season test next week against North Babylon.

West Boys Soccer: After playing Commack to a scoreless tie to start the season, the Colts broke out in a 4-0 victory over Smithtown East on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the Colts will begin their League IV schedule as they host Copiague.

East Boys Soccer: The Thunderbirds avenged last season's loss to East Islip in the first round of the Suffolk AA playoffs with a 4-0 drubbing of the Redmen on Thursday in their final non-league game. Tyler Kirschner had two goals as Hills East improved to 1-1. They will start their League II schedule against Bay Shore on Tuesday.

West Girls Soccer: The girls started their 2011 season with a 1-0 victory over Lindenhurst but have since dropped two one-goal games at home to Sayville, 3-2, and to Connetquot, 1-0. They open their League IV schedule at home at Copiague on Monday.

East Girls Soccer: After dropping their season opening game in a 4-0 loss to Northport, the Thunderbirds bounced back with two victories over West Babylon, 4-0, and Lindenhurst, 2-0. Now finished with the non-league portion of their schedule, the girls will focus their attention on their first League II opponent, as they'll host East Islip on Monday.
