Patch recently spoke with Scorcia about his show-- which broadcasts out of the WGBB studio in West Babylon-- and what listeners can expect when they tune in.

Patch:  So Anthony, how did you get involved in radio?

Anthony Scorcia: Believe it or not, I have no experience in radio.  Basically the idea was, I was listening to golf a lot on the radio myself and was always looking for different angles and realized Long Island was the only area in the vicinity that didn’t have golf on the radio. I found WGBB which had a potpourri of different programs and pitched them the idea. I went and got the sponsors and that’s really how I got started.

P:  So you had to obtain  on your own?

AS: I did, WGBB is a little antiquated now and they don’t have the resources, so basically you have to come with the program, with the sponsors and that’s how it works.  You have to pay for your airtime.

P: What’s been the response to the show so far?

AS: It’s a fairly new show (it debuted May 7), but I’ve gotten nice emails and messages saying that people like the show and they appreciate it.

P: Who's been your favorite guest?

AS: I’ve enjoyed them all, but I would have to say the funniest one was Michael Collins (a tour caddy who runs the popular Twitter handle @FunnyCaddy). A lot of people enjoyed that one for sure.

P:  Have you always had a strong passion for LI golf?  What course do you enjoy the most?

AS: Yes, once I started playing golf I was hooked. I definitely got the bug. My favorite course is Smithtown Landing. I have a strong connection with the people out there and it’s always been a fun course. I like it because it’s a hilly course, there’s not a lot of level lies. And it’s always in really good shape.

P: What kind of game do you have? And don't lie.

AS: I’m a single-digit handicap, but I think those days are over. With the radio show and my kids, there just hasn’t been a lot of time to practice.

P: Anything else you’d like to air out to your audience?

AS: I hope people appreciate the show and I know there are a lot of golfers out there who enjoy LI golf as much as I do and I want them to share in the experience.

You can catch Anthony's show every Saturday morning (from March-October) at 7 a.m. on Long Island's WGBB 1240AM. Listen to past guests at his website Scorciaonpar.com and follow him on Twitter @asonpar
