Boys Soccer Lands Another Pair of Victories

A weekly sports round up of the Half Hollow Hills teams.

West Football: Electrifying quarterback  was held to just 37 yards on 11 carries and was intercepted three times as the , 28-7 on Saturday. Jaquese Jones also rushed for 62 yards on 11 attempts, but Hills West was unable to find an answer for the Redmen's stingy defense. The Colts now sit at 2-2 and will host West Babylon in an unusual Thursday afternoon game on October 6 at 3:30.

East Football: Hills East proved their might against first place Riverhead last Wednesday, tieing the game 28-28 at the half. Riverhead fought back though and the Thunderbirds eventually fell 47-35 to the top offensive team. Rasheed Williams rushed for three touchdowns, R.J. Nitti ran for one and hit Brandon Brightman for another.

West Boys Soccer: Donovan Fraser paced the Colts to yet another pair of victories this week. The Colts senior and returning All-American recorded hat tricks in a pair of 4-0 victories over Deer Park and West Babylon. The Maryland-bound forward surpassed 40 goals for his career this week. Joe Sagsveen recorded his fourth and fifth shutouts of the season this week as well. The team, according to head coach Doug Gannon has won 29 consecutive games and is 34-0-1 in its last 35 regular season meetings.

West Girls Soccer: The girls played only one game this week, falling 3-1 on the road to Deer Park. The Colts will host West Babylon on Monday at 4:00 and North Babylon on Wednesday, as they try to make their way up the League IV standings. They currently sit at 2-1, with games still yet to be made up.

East Boys Soccer: Jake Freeman has consistently been stating his case as one of Suffolk County's best players. He continued that trend this week, scoring five goals and adding three assists as the Thunderbirds rolled to two victories. On Saturday, Freeman scored a hat trick in a 5-0 rout of Whitman. He followed that up on Tuesday by netting another pair, and assisting on two more in a 6-1 drubbing of Central Islip. Tyler Kirschner also added two goals for the Thunderbirds, who are tied with West Islip atop League II.

East Girls Soccer: The East girls soccer team was held scoreless in their only game this week, a 1-0 loss to Whitman on Monday. The girls are currently 0-4 in League III, but have plenty of games yet to be played, and are still very alive in the playoff hunt.
