Hills West Boys Soccer Sets School Record

A weekly round up of the varsity sports games from Sept. 18 - Sept. 25.

Half Hollow Hills High School West Boys Soccer: Donovan Fraser and Brett Nason paced the Colts to three big victories this week. First, Fraser had three goals and Nason added four assists, a school record according to head coach Doug Gannon, in a 7-1 rout of Copiague. As an encore, the two each found the back of the net as the Colts shutout Comsewogue on Thursday, 3-0. Fraser scored his second hat trick of the week in a 4-0 victory over Deer Park on Saturday. Joe Sagsveen made four saves to preserve yet another clean sheet.

Half Hollow Hills High School East Boys Soccer:  Jake Freeman's three goals helped the Thunderbirds cruise past Whitman, 5-0, on Saturday in their only game of a rain-shortened week. They'll resume play on Wednesday at Riverhead.

Half Hollow Hills High School West Girls Soccer: Sara Matzelle's three goals set the table for an easy 6-0 rout of Riverhead on Wednesday afternoon. The girls will enjoy a break in the schedule, as they don't resume games until October 3, when they host West Babylon.

Half Hollow Hills High School East Girls Soccer: The Hills East girls team dropped a pair of games this week. They were unable to climb out of an early 3-0 hole against East Islip on Monday, falling 5-2. On Thursday, the girls yielded a late second half goal against Centereach that broke a scoreless tie, as they lost 1-0.

Half Hollow Hills High School West Football: Blue Waves' running back Charles Bartlett dove over the goal line as time expired, giving Riverhead a over Hills West on Saturday. Devante McFarlane did all he could to will the Colts to victory, including a six-touchdown performance, 379 yards of offense and a blocked punt, but West ultimately couldn't stop Bartlett, and Riverhead. They will return home to host East Islip on September 28 at 2:30.

Half Hollow Hills High School East Football: The Thunderbirds also fell, in signficantly less dramatic fashion, to North Babylon, 47-21. R.J. Nitti ran in two touchdowns for Hills East, but they had no answer for North Babylon's T.Q. Grant, who had four of his own, including two that went for over 60 yards.
