HIlls West Girls Basketball Loses to Sayville
HS West led 2-0 in the first quarter on two free throws, but couldn't hold onto the lead.
The Hills West Colts varsity girls basketball lost 41-34 to the Sayville Golden Flashes on Tuesday evening. The sharp shooting of senior point guard Marissa Kahane in the first quarter and a stingy Sayville defense in the third quarter proved to be the difference for the Lady Flashes.
After HS West took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on two free throws, Kahane, Sayville's leader, took over, hitting three 3-point shots in racking up 11 points in the quarter to give the Lady Flashes a 13-6 lead. She would finish with 13 points for the game to lead all scorers.
The Colts began to gain momentum in the second quarter behind freshman Francesca Casalino, who had 8 points in the game, and the strong rebounding of Sydney Sodine, who also contributed 8 points.

Sayville led 21-18 at the half and in the third quarter, the Lady Flashes' defense tightened up, holding Hills West to only three points for the quarter, while taking a 29-21 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Sayville opened up their largest lead of the game after junior guard Emily Meier hit two free throws to give Sayville a 37-26 lead. Meier would finish with 6 points.

Hills West tried to get back in the game, cutting the Sayville lead to five behind the strong play of Diana Kontos, who finished with 10 points to lead the Colts.
But the Lady Flashes held on to their lead, thanks to the strong fourth-quarter play of senior forward Kelsey Clair, who had 8 points, and Meier.
Hills West's next game is Thursday, against Connetquot, at Connetquot at 6 p.m.
