Lax Teams Compete in "King of the Hill" Tournament

A day of youth lacrosse, food, games and more brings excitement to the Hills East fields.

More than 70 teams competed Saturday to earn the title of "King of the Hill" in a lacrosse tournament at High School East.

The tournament is the main fundraiser for Hills Lacrosse, which helps offset expenses for  participants with special needs. The funds also provide gym time for kids during the off season and supports the high school teams.

This year's event was especially exciting for Challenger participants as the Hills team merged with the Garden City team to represent Long Island. The local kids went up against a team from Maryland for the tournament. It will be the first time that three lacrosse teams for developmentally disabled athletes met.

The Maryland team was able to participate due to the work of Drew Quinto, an eighth grade student at Half Hollow Hills, who created a nonprofit organization called Hills vs. Autism, which gives individuals with autism the opportunity to participate in social activities in their community and enhance their lives with support and awareness. Look out later this week for more about this incredible program in our Citizen of the Week column.
