Registration Open for Hills West Basketball Clinics, Tobias Harris Camp

Plenty of chances for youngsters to improve their balling skills this summer.

For youngsters looking to improve their skills on the basketball court this summer, the gym floors of the Half Hollow Hills high schools are the place to be.

The Hills West Basketball Clinics, which have been running each summer for more than a decade, are led by Hills West boys basketball coach Bill Mitaritonna.

This year's clinics, open to boys and girls entering grades 3-10, will take place over three weeks in July at High School West. The boys sessions, which sold out last year, will run from July 15-19 and July 22-26. A single girls session, which will include instruction from Mitraritonna and Hills West girls basketball coach Stefanie Mouzakes, will run from July 29-August 2.

The cost to attend is $175 for one week or $300 for both weeks (for boys). The registration form can be found here. Signup is limited to 80 players per session.

"What sets it apart from other camps/clinics is our attention to all of our campers individually," Mitaritonna has said of the clinics in the past. "We create a positive and fun atmosphere of learning the game of basketball being taught by the Hills West coaching staff and its varsity players."

Tobias Harris School of Business Basketball Camp

Tobias Harris may be making a name for himself in the NBA, but he never forgets about his hometown and the Hills West grad will be leading the Tobias Harris School of Business Basketball Camp, now in its third year, this summer.

Campers, according to a camp flyer, receive detailed instruction that will help to formulate a better understanding of basketball and skill techniques. Daily stations including; passing, ball handling, shooting, rebounding, footwork, defense, and teamwork will help to improve the participants’ game. Workshops on careers, life goals, self-esteem, and invited guest speakers are incorporated into the daily activities.

"Growing up I have attended my share of basketball camps and often times the players who headline them make a minimal appearance," said T.J. Harris, Tobias' younger brother and one of several Harris family members who help run the camp.  "Tobias has been adamant about being at his camp each day and interacting with the campers as much as possible. It offers campers a real opportunity to interact with an NBA player who makes himself totally accessible to them the entire camp."

The first session of the camp, which is held at High School East, will take place June 24-28. The second will be from August 19-23. Both clinics are for boys and girls entering grades 5-12. The cost is $295 per session. Register online here
