Less than two weeks after the St. Anthony’s girls lacrosse team beat the then-No. 2 team in the nation, the Friars face a no less formidable challenge Wednesday.

St. Anthony’s hosts Garden City at 4:30 p.m. in a non-league game heavy with state and national significance. The Friars (10-1) are the No. 1 team in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association Class A rankings. Garden City (11-0) is No. 1 in the state Class B rankings.
But LaxPower.com has the Trojans fifth nationally and St. Anthony’s ninth. So Wednesday’s game in South Huntington featuring Long Island’s premier girls lacrosse programs will be dissected around the lacrosse world.

Ward Melville and Chaminade are still one-two in the NYSSWA boys lacrosse Class A rankings while Garden City and Comsewogue are 4-5 in the Class B rankings.

The NYSSWA also released the latest Long Island boys lacrosse rankings, compiled by Farmingdale Coach Bob Hartranft. Here is the Suffolk County Top 10
