Whiz Kid: Max Gerber

West Hollow student struts his stuff at recent gymnastics competitions.

Max Gerber, a sixth grader at , takes home this week's Whiz Kid honor for his recent outstanding performances at the state and regional gymnastics championships. 

Max, who trains at Gold Medal Gymnastics Center in Greenlawn, was crowned all-around champion at the 2011 Level 7 New York State Boys Gymnastics Championships held in West Point, N.Y., on March 19.  His all-around score of 89.4 was more than a point and a half better than the nearest competitor. 

Max also took first place on high bar with a score of 14.8, first place on parallel bars with a score of 15.1, second place in the pommel horse with a score of 14.9, fifth place on rings with a score of 15.1, and fifth place on vault with a score of 15.2.

At the East Coast Region 7 Championships held in Landover, Md. on April 2, Max took fifth place in the all-around competition with a score of 86.1.
