Top Long Island Summer Events of the Week

Don McLean concert, Blues festival and a Father's Day car show are among the highlights.

As part of our 2012 Long Island Summer Guide, each Wednesday we're spotlighting the major beach and outdoor events coming up across the Island.

Here's what's on tap in the coming week: 

Don McLean Concert
Ever want to hear American Pie performed live? Well, here's your chance. Music icon Don McLean will perform a free concert at Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Theatre in East Meadow on Saturday, June 16. Show begins at 7:30 p.m. Theatre is near parking fields 6 and 6A. There's no formal seating so bring folding chairs. If weather conditions are doubtful, then call 516-572-0355 after 7 p.m. Saturday for updated performance information.

Riverhead Blues and Music Festival
The Riverhead Blues Festival runs all weekend, June 16 to 17, at Ammann Riverfront Park. Find the full schedule of performances on Riverhead Patch. A one-day pass is $15; a two-day pass runs $25. Tickets could be purchased online here

Father's Day Car Show
The Nassau County Sheriff Officers Widows and Children's Fund will host a car show at the Merrick Long Island Rail Road station in Merrick on Father's Day, June 17. Proceeds go to support the Widows and Children's Fund. The show begins at 12 p.m.

Strawberry Festival
The 58th Annual Mattituck Lions Club Strawberry Festival kicks off this weekend, beginning on Thursday night and running through Sunday. A favorite for generations, the event - presented by Bridgehampton National Bank - brings together the community for an event that's filled with fun - and purpose, as funds raised benefit local non-profit organizations. Pirate Festival and Classic Boat Show
Hordes of pirates and their brethren will once again be invading West Sayville for the Third Annual Pirate Festival and Classic Boat Show. The event - to be held at the The Long Island Maritime Museum on Saturday and Sunday - includes live re-enactments and interaction with pirates from up and down the coast, music, kids activities, a treasure hunt, costume contests, a thieves market and great food. Runs both days from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; $8 per person, and kids five and younger get in for free. 

Greek American Night
Nassau County and Canon USA will be hosting a series of International Music Nights at Eisenhower Park’s Lakeside Theatre throughout the Summer. This year’s line up includes 20 concerts that feature themed music from across the world starting at 7:30 p.m. Greek American night will be held on Sunday, June 17.
