Top Long Island Summer Events of the Week

Huntington Lighthouse Music Fest and Ronkonkoma Street Fair are among the highlights.

As part of our 2012 Long Island Summer Guide, each Wednesday we're spotlighting the major beach and outdoor events coming up across the Island. This week (sadly) marks the final edition.

WWII Bombers Arrive for Labor Day

The American Airpower Museum at Farmingdale's Republic Airport has announced that this Labor Day holiday will mark “Wings, Wheels and Tracks, a gathering of the great fighters, bombers and armor of the “Greatest Generation” with the chance to tour the legendary B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator bomber and a P-51 Mustang fighter from Aug. 31-Sept. 3. Labor Day weekend adult admission at the museum is $20, senior/veteran (with ID) is $15, children are $5, children three and under are free. Advance sales are available at reduced prices at www.americanairpowermuseum.org

Ronkonkoma Street Fair

The 7th Annual Ronkonkoma Street Fair is on tap for Sunday, Sept. 2. The street festival runs from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and will feature for entertainment, great food and vendors of all types; continuous DJ and local performers. Find the excitement on Hawkins Avenue in Ronkonkoma between Portion Road and Wittridge Road. 

Huntington Lighthouse Music Fest

Come to the only music festival held on top of a working lighthouse in the middle of the water! The 6th annual Huntington Lighthouse Music Fest takes place Saturday, Sept. 1 (Raindate-Sunday) and free to the public. Runs from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Come by boat, kayak, canoe, or other mode of water transportation, relax, and listen to the bands that will perform from the roof of the lighthouse. The lineup features: Joe Rock & the Allstars, King Wellington, The Fuzz, Playback, Running' Loose, Pamela Betti, Prospect Street and Pacifica Roadshow.

Arts in the Plaza

This arts and music marketplace in Long Beach held weekly on Saturdays is extendings its hours on Sept. 1 as a goodbye to summer. Arts in the Plaza is located in front of Long Beach City Hall off Park Avenue. Find more info here: http://www.artsintheplaza.com/
