Photos: Autism Sports Camp Takes the Fields

Team Heroes teaches children with special needs teamwork, socialization and basic soccer skills.

Team Heoes, a sports camp for children with autism ages 3-9 and their siblings, took over the fields at the Half Hollow Hills Fran Greenspan Administration Center last month, bringing families together in an exciting soccer tournament.

The camp, which is based in West Islip and run at the school fields in Half Hollow Hills, is coached by special educators along with other dedicated volunteers using an applied behavioral analysis approach.

Team Heroes is an integrated setting, which focuses on teamwork, socialization, sharing, turn taking, waiting, with basic soccer and t-ball skills.
