New Senior Resource Center Opening This Week

A Melville law firm will open the Susan C. Snowe Caregiver Resource Center Thursday.

A Melville law firm will have a grand opening of its Susan C. Snowe Caregiver Resource Center Thursday, June 14.

With the complexities and stress in planning for long term care that includes health care choices, living options and financial issues, the resource center, within the offices of elder law and estate planning firm Genser Dubow Genser & Cona, offers a range of information from various organizations. It is the first facility of its kind on Long Island offering visitors an opportunity to browse for elder care information and speak with an elder law attorney at no charge during designated days and hours.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house featuring speakers and political dignitaries will be held from 11:30 a.m. until – 2 p.m. Thursday. Seniors, caregivers and professionals are invited to attend the free event. A light lunch will be served. After the ceremonies, participants will have an opportunity to speak informally with an elder law attorney regarding their questions and concerns.

“By dedicating the center to Long Island social worker Susan C. Snowe, we are proud to pay tribute to an extraordinary, compassionate woman who had a strong commitment to her clients,” Jennifer Cona, Esq., managing partner, GDGC, said in a statement. “It is in her name that we strive to serve our clients as well as she did hers.”

Snowe's career spanned 32 years at AHRC where she counseled countless parents and families with disabled children. When she retired in 2002, Snowe became an advocate for seniors and a proponent of aging at home. She passed away suddenly in 2010 at age 74.

“This warm, inviting center is a long time coming, and I’m thankful that Jennifer Cona and her staff are bringing the Susan C. Snowe Caregiver Resource Center to Long Island,” Tracey Kuczinski, a senior housing advocate, said.  “I am excited to have my Golden Guides with information on senior housing options available there.”

“It’s wonderful that GDGC is giving seniors and caregivers easy access to a wealth of information that is vital to navigating the health care system,” Jennifer Devine of Caring People Home Care Agency, said.

“The center pulls the resources together under one roof,” Cindy Doerler of Bristal Assisted Living, added.

During the opening celebration, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Town of Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone will issue proclamations to the firm for its contributions assisting Long Island residents with elder care issues.

Genser Dubow Genser & Cona is located at the offices at 225 Broad Hollow Road, Suite 200.
