Scrimmages and LIRR Changes

What's happening around the area this week.

Huntington's sanitation crews are operating on a different schedule this week because of the Labor Day holiday. Monday and Thursday pickup is moved back to Tuesday and Friday; Tuesday and Friday pickup is moved to Wednesday and Saturday. Recycling is Thursday in all areas and there is no yardwaste collection this week.

Football But No Classes Yet

Though classes won’t begin until next week, football scrimmages get  underway this week at both HHH high schools. West travels to Amityville for a 3:30 p.m. game Tuesday; East hosts Shoreham-Wading River Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

New LIRR Timetables
 New LIRR timetables take effect Tuesday with revised schedules for trains to/from Atlantic Terminal and Mets-Willets Point. In addition, Hempstead track work will affect midday service on Hempstead, Far Rock, Babylon and Huntington branches. For details, pick up the new Sept. 3 timetable.


Unity Day Parade and Carnival
The Huntington Awareness Day parade and carnival are set for 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, with marchers heading up New York Avenue to the carnival in the municipal parking lot north of the LIRR station.
