Week Ahead: Nosferatu, Halloween

Hear the Candidates
If you haven't seen the November candidates yet, there are at least two opportunities this week. The League of Women Voters hosts a Suffolk County legislative candidates forum Monday at the Harborfields Public Library at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, the PTA Council of Half Hollow Hills has scheduled a candidates night Tuesday at Half Hollow Hills High School East at 6:30 p.m.

Fundraiser at Honu Restaurant
Moonjumpers and the Huntington Chamber of Commerce are combining efforts to raise funds for the Leadership Huntington Foundation and the Jordan Kushnick College Fund. The event is Monday, 7-10 p.m., at Honu restaurant and will feature music by Peter Mazzeo & The Hit Squad Trio.

Melissa Joan Hart at the Book Revue
Actress Melissa Joan Hart will speak and sign copies of her new book, Melissa Explains It All: Tales From My Abnormally Normal Life, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Book Revue.

Halloween on Parade
Thursday is packed with Halloween events, from the downtown parade to library-based craft programs. The parade starts at 4 p.m. in front of the Post Office on Gerard Street.

New Look at J. Jill
As part of the continuing expansion and renovation of Walt Whitman Shops,  the redesigned J. Jill store plans to open Thursday in its new location.

Classic Silent Film
St. John's Episcopal Church is hosting a special screening of the 1922 silent movie Nosferatu, Friday at 7 p.m.

Rock for the Arts
The South Huntington Arts in Education Foundation is sponsoring "Rock for the Arts - A Night of Rock and Roll for the Entire Family" on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Whitman High School. The show supports district arts programs.

Poetry Performance and Workshops
The Walt Whitman Birthplace offers its third annual Walking with Whitman: Poetry in Performance, hosted by Walt Whitman Birthplace writer-in-residence George Wallace. Ray McNiece with Pramila Venkateswaran are featured at the performance Saturday, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Workshops, Writing With Whitman, are scheduled from 3-5 p.m.
