Fire Open House, Festival and Safety

Guide to this weekend's busy calendar for the area.

LI Fall Festival
The Big Kahuna of events this weekend is the Long Island Fall Festival, a four-day party in Heckscher Park in Huntington. The fare includes musical acts, a meatball-eating contest, a carnival, and vendors, lots of vendors. For a break from the festival, there's Sunday's Columbus Day parade on Main Street, starting at noon.

But those looking for something else, here are some options:

Kids Safety Event
Huntington Honda is hosting a children's safety event at the dealership on Saturday from 10am-4pm and Sunday from 12pm - 4pm.  

Blessing of the Animals
Christ Lutheran Church in East Northport will offer a blessing of the animals Sunday at 1 p.m.

Field Band Show at Whitman
Walt Whitman High School is hosting its band show at 6 p.m. Saturday. 

Island Harvest Benefit
The Casagrande family will hold its 5th annual Charity Event to benefit Island Harvest Food Bank, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization. The event will take place at the Casagrande residence, 19 Legends Circle, Melville, on  Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Fire Department Open House
The Melville Fire Department will demonstrate safety and rescue techniques Sunday  from 1-4 p.m. at the Kohl's Shopping Center at 834 Walt Whitman Road, Melville.

Yellowgold at Cinema Arts
Groovy Gustafer Yellowgold, equal parts pop rock concert and hand drawn cartoon movie, will perform at noon at Cinema Arts Centre.
 
Monsters at the Whaling Museum
Monday is Columbus Day, so the Whaling Museum is inviting children ages 4-12 to see Monsters Inc. and make their own costumes, 11:30 a.m.
