South Side High School in Rockville Centre is among the best on Long Island, according to new rankings. (Patch file photo)

Christopher Wendt, I wasn't vainly implying anything. I was trying to say that it was a waste ofRead More money to go to such a school and I fully support the public school system and think it does a fabulous job. Correct, my parents could have saved a lot of money and sent him to PS and had the same end result.
Resident April 24, 2014 at 11:49 pm
@ Concerned mother of 3.. You can't and aren't paying 17k to educate your child in the PS system,Read More you're right. Take a look at what it costs your district to educate each child. Answer? You and all the taxpayers in your district ARE paying (sharing the cost of) 17k (or more) to educate your child in LI's public school systems. Long Island's PS's are public schooling at private school prices. You don't feel the pinch as much, because the cost is shared round your town.

I want to know where Sayville is. They claim they are top 2 percent in the nation.

And there up for more raises while other civil servants whom make 1/4 of what they collect areRead More getting laid off. Everyone complains about the school taxes , and police salaries fly by without a whimper.

Good job getting the potential killers off the road. These stats might not impress everyone and theRead More pay might seem high, but if the life they saved was one of your children it was worth every penny.
knee jerk April 24, 2014 at 09:39 pm
@ Paul: Yes, you make a valid point, but I have a problem with the words "potentialRead More killers". EVERYONE is a "potential killer" when behind the wheel of a car, even you. Everyone gets distracted from time to time when driving: playing with the radio, GPS, adjusting the mirrors, turning on/off wipers/lights, yelling/slapping those kids in the back seat, picking your nose and yes, even looking down at the speedometer or gauges. At that split second, you Paul, are a "POTENTIAL KILLER". And I haven't even mentioned the ones you can be cited for.

Hillary is a very smart able woman. She served well as Senator from NY and as SECSTATE. I wouldRead More vote for her again. The drooling halfwits from the tea party can't stop her. The republicans will never win with tea party assholes fragmenting the vote. Very reasonable republican candidates are now forced into making idiotic statements to show that they agree in some way with the droolers. Hil is a winner already.
Brian Burke April 25, 2014 at 12:05 am
Why is she speaking? She quit her last post and and someone is stupid enough to pay her for advise?Read More Give us a break and go back to Arkansas with you husband. OH you probably would get locked up there for the problems as governor.
Scott Peterson April 25, 2014 at 12:31 am
Maybe Hillary Clinton's brains in Sara Palin's body, less a few pounds maybe but that's just myRead More preference, I am not judging her for not meeting my ideal, and without an accent that makes her sound like a character in Fargo; and who remembers Fargo? Exactly. I don't know that it can be done but such a creation might win regardless of which party she would represent. Image being ever more important as substance is draining away and all. On the other hand, if 60% of the nation is over weight and 60% are emotionally disturbed, N.J has a Governor who talks a lot without saying anything. He sounds like a true man of the people to me.
TJ Eckleburg April 24, 2014 at 04:55 pm
Well, Bob. Let me correct you. Paranoid Psycho Theresa Flora did NOT "call me out." IRead More called her out. Please keep track.
eatingdogfood April 24, 2014 at 07:10 pm
No, Eckleburg you called names, she called you out. Go away now.
TJ Eckleburg April 24, 2014 at 08:26 pm
"eatingdogfood" oh well... that explains everything about you.
Should plastic bags be a thing of the past?
CAPICU April 23, 2014 at 03:39 pm
Oh oh ...The bag lady is back
Frank Esposito April 23, 2014 at 07:23 pm
Keep up the good fight Lorraine! If this CAPICU joker lived though the attack of plastic bags that IRead More just survived he would be your number one fan. California is always on the cutting edge of what is great about America. I want NYS to be just like them. Death to the plastic bags! I've received a few painful paper cuts in my life; and while plastic bags have not cut me yet I do fear them greatly. One of my greatest fears is I will get one without the printed warning about not placing it over my head. I usually ask for paper and risk the paper cuts; there is no coming back from suffocation by plastic bag. Although prolonged lack of air hasn't seemed to have affected you greatly. You go girl!
Ron Gilone April 23, 2014 at 08:48 pm
Most plastic bags from stores are HDPE (High density polyethelene). HDPE has been accepted byRead More Brookhaven Town for recycling, but not plastic bags. WHY? - Am I missing something here?

How about all the long standing business's going OUT of business. Entennmans, 300 jobs, been aroundRead More for 100 years but now Cuomo is pushing how great NY is to do business in? BULL! We are taxed to death, giving a new business 10 years tax free and all those housing developments like Wyandanch Rising a FORTY YEAR tax abatement? That burden falls on the existing business's/homeowners that are now being pushed out. Yankee Peddler is one, been here forever and now some used furniture store took it's place. What are these things they are so proud of? Egifter? Launch Pads? More reasons to go online and not shop local? Nice way to really help the private small owned business's on Long Island file bankruptcy quicker so they can move to another state! There's your brain drain. YOU CAUSED IT!
Linda Otta April 23, 2014 at 03:57 pm
I just looked up egifter. It's a website. How many people locally does that employ? ZERO. It is anRead More impersonal way to send a gift card to someone you don't care enough to get off your butt and go to the store and pick them out something nice. Smoke N Mirrors. They aren't doing crap for you but another "luncheon" for themselves, congratulating themselves for being masters of the pretend Universe they live in. It's getting old fellas. Real old.
Linda Otta April 23, 2014 at 04:02 pm
Launchpad, another stupid idea. A business that makes "business's". That idea soundRead More familiar? Because it is. The Business Incubator was the first non successful launch of such an idea and then Mark Mayoka started the business Launch Up idea in a Town Hall Room on the 3rd floor that Susan Berland previously used to have Town employees make phone calls (on town time) to get her reelected. They gave that room to Mr Mayoka to shut him up when he stumbled across the makeshift re-election center. All these things they are talking about are basically widgets. I wonder how much Federal Money they got in grants to do absolutely nothing but get jobs for people who campaign for their re-election bids
