Her rights were violated. If "I" have to look at all the jesus propaganda, then I shouldRead More be able to voice my right to free speech. While I would never choose such a plate for fear that my car would get vandalized, I totally support this woman's right to request it.

Getting back to the topic at hand... Religious freedom clause of the 1st Amendment is extended toRead More all regardless of one's religious beliefs or lack thereof. It seem like we can use our freedom of speech not in snipping and sniping at one another, but to use the freedom of speech to promote good will and to do what is right. Protecting religious freedom of other people's religious practice is the right thing to do. To do the contrary is not only wrong, it's also un-American.

I don't like debit cards either, it is a direct line to one's bank account. What I didn't like wasRead More my bank replacing my ATM card with a dual usage ATM/debit card without asking me...I made them cancel it and give me an ATM functionality card only. Some people don't have credit line established yet (like my college student son) and have no choice but to use a debit card instead of credit card. I take precautions and have it assigned to an isolated checking account, and urge son to monitor it closely (set up email alerts), good training for future financial independence.

I never use my debit card I'm any store . Cash majority of the time and credit cards and I disagreeRead More no nobody deserves this to happen to them.

Has nothing to do with video games. Raised like a POS acts like a POS. To young at 24?? It'sRead More the generation of 'look downs" staring at their phones all day with the entitlement aspect. 18 is a legal adult. Hospital workers and Visitors need to remind themselves to wash their hands and not to bringRead More anything that may be unsanitary to a hospital.A Patient in a hospital may have an immune system working overtime and fighting to keep its body healthy. A patient can be the host to the germ or the parasitic organism. The infectious agent can be deadly and has the ability to spread from person to person.Parasitic organism are constantly evolving and are able to overwhelm our defenses.Maintaining a hospital clean does help ,however will this be enough to stop the spread of deadly viruses within our hospitals and our society in general?

It would also help if doctors in hospitals did not wear ties or white lab coats that are a hugeRead More spreader of infections.

I feel sorry for the person that died, but I see it all the time, whether it's in Halesite or up inRead More Huntington Station, people just walk out into the street on NY Ave like they own the road. Especially by all the Bodegas. People hanging out drinking and then darting into the road. Not sure what happened in this case.
Ann Darcy April 19, 2014 at 12:16 pm
A man is killed in Halesite and the above poster drags in bodegas, the Station and drunks. Hard toRead More see the connection there. If you are not sure what happened, what's the purpose of your comment?
CAPICU April 19, 2014 at 04:35 pm
Chrissy F...I'm with you on that .The police department needs to enforce Jaywalking Laws. The area inRead More Huntington Station you mention is an area just waiting for another accident to happen.Often you find drunk man standing in the middle of the road and people running across the street showing no regard for their safety and others. Police and Fire department only show up to clean up the carnage after the accident, but no enforcement of the jaywalking laws is ever enforced. The only thing they do is give tickets to anyone driving in that area for a day or two.I do regret what happened to Mr. Jose Lucero and do not accuse him of being reckless or at fault for the tragedy inflicted upon him.

No William, what she needs is about 50000 volts of electricity.Fry the fat yom up nice and crispy.
David Greenberg April 20, 2014 at 01:39 pm
So what you're saying william is that anyone who comes along and claims "PTSD",Read More "ABUSE", blah, blah blah should get a free pass? Why have laws then? The whole concept of making something a criminal act is that we want to discourage it from happening in the first place, by putting deterrents into effect. One such deterrent is PRISON, another is the Death Penalty. If this person was being abused, she had options BEFORE coming to this point - for whatever reason, she make a decision to kill someone, and a Jury of her peers determined her guilt. So off to jail she goes - hopefully FOREVER.

Roll Back Our Tax April 18, 2014 at 07:31 am
So this means we can continue to over tax the "wealthy" home owners and borrow more $ at aRead More lower rate instead of getting spending which includes salaries, benefits and pensions under control? Only in Huntington can you have a wide variance of assessments and an assessor that won't deal with the facts. Need a reassessment done.
Andrew Scott April 18, 2014 at 03:21 pm
Sorry, Mike. Wrong again. It would indeed be different if the flag in question were a swaztika, forRead More swaztikas are MUCH more widely understood for the symbol that they are. From very early on in New York - and I assume for the rest of the country - Swaztikas are understood - without question - to be symbols of death, genocide, and the Holocaust. (And please don't bring up the Jains of India.) IF the student in question had brandished a flag with a swastika, an appropriate punishment would indeed be a short suspension. I would NOT consider throwing the student out, however, unless he were also found guilty of verbal or physically harassing students, or inciting violence on campus. I WOULD hold a administrative hearing where all involved parties would be present. And then I would demand an apology from the student, one private to the school leaders, and then one made publicly to the student body. I would also make sure that the student UNDERSTOOD WHY what he did was wrong. Some sort of community service or charitable work may also be added to the penalty. This kind of response would be much more of a service to the current (former) student. It is healthier solution, and in the long run, would do far greater good than the present unforgiving, unyieldingly abhorrent alternative.

First off, if these kids were star football players, they would not have been expelled (editor'sRead More note: I went to Chaminade, and they pretty much always beat us). One of the things a private catholic school education is supposed to drive home is a broad knowledge of social contexts and a general sense of maturity and decorum.....this act was a complete lack of that. If anything it shows that these kids were complete knuckleheads that probably shouldn't have even made it to senior year. That said, the confederate flag, regardless of your beliefs is a legal act of free speech, just as it is to desecrate a crucifix. Kids have gotten less severe punishments for far worse behavior. A stiff suspension, ban from the prom or graduation would have been fine, maybe a message to the students. This punishment is knee jerk and reactionary.....If the Bro. Cregan's students are truly living the catholic faith, they will heal and forgive...but give them that chance.

Igor April 20, 2014 at 06:03 pm
The more I think about it, the more disturb I get. Think about it. You go the supermarket. They wantRead More you to scan your own groceries. Bag your own groceries. They want you to put the money in the machine. Have they lowered the prices? No. Now when you go to fast food places they want you to do their job for them. Pour your own drinks. Do you get a discount? No. Seems to me the more places you go the more they want, you the paying customer to do their job for them. Put the soda machine behind the counter and do the work that you want the minimum wage increase for.
