The Dix Hills Fire Department has dedicated itself to serving the community with the primary purpose of saving life…More and property since 1947. It protects one of the largest fire districts in New York State, which covers nearly 25 square miles and has a population of more than 26,000 people. The community is composed primarily of single-family residential houses and is criss-crossed by major roadways, including Commack Road, Jericho Turnpike, the Northern State Parkway, the Long Island Expressway and Deer Park Avenue.
The department consists of 150 volunteers, including firefighters, basic and advanced Emergency Medical Technicians and Fire Police. They operate out of three fire stations and handle more than 800 fire and 1,600 medical emergencies each year.
They have six fire trucks, three ambulances, one First Responder, two brush trucks, one stump jumper and one antique fire truck.
