Schein Puts Kids on the Path Back to School

600 get supplies ahead of new school year.

Henry Schein employees put on a party and distributed new clothes and supplies Thursday to about 600 Long Island children preparing for the start of school next week.

Food, balloon animals, slides, face painting and music were extra attractions for the children, who were invited to the event in Melville by social service agencies in Dix Hills, Huntington, Deer Park, East Northport and elsewhere.

Kathy Sullivan, associate director of strategic partnerships at SCO Family of Services, said that sending kids in need to school with required supplies and wearing new clothes meant, "It begins the school year just right. It levels the playing field. And this is a celebration. It says school matters."

Schein employees bought clothing for individual kids whose needs were identified by the agencies; the company donated backpacks and school supplies. It was the 16th year.
